Aloha All MFKERS.!!
Well since my last build was such a success with my friends, you guys, and the community. The local paper heard about it and came to my house and did a full article in the paper on my monster fish tank build. I got so much recognition on the island that everywhere i go it's " hey you're the guy with the fish tank do you make those for people.?"
So.. I have decided to be the only one on the Hawaiian islands to start a business specializing in custom one of a kind high end furniture style fish tanks. what ever design they want, any wood, stone, any size and style. I will also maintenance the tanks as well. My best friend Is going to be my partner. He is also a great woodworker/craftsman that knows how to get the job done and right.
just getting started so I'm taking it slow. Going to get business cards this next week. I'm going to wait to pay for a full page advertisement in the paper and a website until after i get done with this 460 gallon that is the feature of this thread. Then we have another right after that. I will see how many orders i can get and then deal with business license and things. I know some big name architects here that are going to help me get brochures out to their clients in the multi million dollar homes here in the resorts. So I have a good feeling this might be a very fun year.!!
Thanks again to everyone here. Very inspiring to hear you guys. and to see all the other HUGE tanks being built. I learned most everything i know about building tanks on here. Great community and I Hope to have many more build threads.
Here is a pic of the article.
Ok now on to the Tank build.!
This is a 460 gallon. This Tank is for a very good friend of mine and also a member of this site. MisterE. This is going in his new Tattoo shop downtown. Going to be a great location where people can see. MisterE was the one who told me years ago that you can build a tank out of plywood. So i came on here and learned. So MisterE is getting a heck of a good deal for this puppy.. hahaha. He has got a HUGE silver Arow in a 180 and a monster clown knife that will love this new home. I'm going to give him some barbs and Bala sharks as well.
I'm making this design a Asian style tank. The shop has a Asian theme and well.. the guys are Asians too. lol. So far this is only 3 days work and not doing full days. The finish wood will be African Ribbon mahogany and maple background. going to be a lot of wood trim added to this. beefy base and sweet doors. there will also be a center piece on this tank. But I'm not telling you what it is. you will see.
The tank from the stand is 44in tall 96 long 33 wide. with the stand over all it's 6f 3in tall. We would have all liked to go deeper on this one but space is the big one here. this is as wide as we can go with the area involved.
Filtration is 2 2260s. I have the same filters in my 500 and i only clean the filters like once every 10 months. Great filters and super Quiet.
I used Laticrete Hydro Ban for the water proofing. this stuff is so nice. no smell and dries quick. fully fish and kitchen grade safe. Then i will go over it with Black epoxy. Epoxy will be tomorrow. glass will be Friday or Monday. shooting to have this thing all done by two weeks or sooner.
That was only one coat of Hydro Ban in those pics. we did a total of three. more pics as we progress.!!
