Maybe I'll do a writeup someday, but here are some pics that I found interesting. I was at the local Home Depot today (getting some caulk - GE II), and I thought I would take a look at the tubes of GE I.

Pictures speak for themselves.

The picks don't seem to be speaking, but then again I have done a little research on this subject.

the only thing i can think you are trying to point out is about the acetic acid.. that uncured silicone. we should be making sure that you allow it to cure. as in any silicone.

I dont think there have been any fish deaths due to re-sealing with GE I though...

I just got some and will be trying it out myself

it says not for: aquariums.
thats just so GE can make 10x as expensive silicone and sell it to other companies who put their label on it so we end up paying 10x as much.

it's a marketing ploy silicone is silicone

But one of the best products for this application is less than 2x the cost. It is intended for the use.

That just isn't a correct statement.

And which product is that??

Actually, 100% silicone is 100% silicone, no matter what brand name its sold under, what the tube looks like, whatever. I've used GE 1 Silicone to reseal a 125g tank, and that tank is humming along happily behind me right now, and has been with fish in it for the last 16 months or so...

The "not for use in aquariums" is just a liability statement so that you can't sue them if you use it and something goes wrong. The only silicone you don't want to use is the kind that comes with mold inhibitors included, as those can be toxic to fish even after curing.
