Hello MFK,

I got these pair of beauties on May 23, 2010 at about 4 inches in length.

Here's their first pic (May 23, 2010):

Here are their pics from June 10, 2010.

It's been eight weeks since I got them.. Here's how they look now (July 15, 2010):

Started off with a diet almost exclusively of blood worms for a couple of weeks. Then moved to feeders for a few weeks while trying to move them to sea-food. One of them moved to sea-food faster and hence grew larger.

Currently both are on a good diet of fresh shrimp, silver sides, squid, octopus, krill etc.

Cheers,
Sid

PS: Two of their tank-mates are seen in the second pic.. The tank also has three 9" Bala Sharks.

wow! GREAT documentation of growth on those fish! would be nice if everyone could do such a good job (i've been lacking in that area as of late too).

may be in touch with you in the future to include these juvenile growth pics on the gar websites. nice job--

Nice Floridas, glad to see someone growing some yoy out. We're all a bit spoiled with John's stock of Floridas of every size under the sun... hehe

These florida gars seem to have particularly long snouts as compared to some other specimens, don't you think?

Are you trying to imply these may be hybrids with a little bit of "longnose" in them?

These are now (@Aug 13) close to 12". I will post a few pictures over this weekend.

Regards,
Sid

great looking specimens! any more recent shots? to comment on the hybrid post, i don't think they are hybrids...Florida gars (and many other species of the shorter-snout variety) have a high degree of variation in the snout length when young, and then potential sexual dimorphism based on snout (but this is relatively inconclusive) when older.

would definitely like an updated shot though, this is a great sequence of capturing the growth over time--
