I had a 7.8 PH going consistently in my tank for a few weeks, but the last few days the PH has dropped down to 6.6. I think it dropped when I introduced the aquarium salt. I thought about using PH up to get my PH back up in the 7s. Wouldn't that be recommended for my setup? What PH do you recommend then if no? What should I use to get my PH to rise to a different level?

Its a bad idea in my opinion to mess with ph at all, unless youre trying to breed a particular species of fish.

If you caught the fish yourself, test the water where they came from, it will be the closest you can come to perfect, but your source water if 7.0 and up is the best to acclimate your fish to, and leave it alone too much flucttuation can cause stress and make for sick fish.

The real issue here is what the heck caused your PH to drop that dramatically so quickly. have you added any new driftwood, or peat in any form to your tank lately?? Water that is stable at a given PH does not just change, without some outside influence.

many natives can handle a wide variety of pHs, as was said before test the place they came from to see what it is. In general aquarium salt wouldn't drop your pH down to the 6s more likely its going to take you up into the low eights. What is your bio load having to many fish may be the culprit. Did you recently add an more decorations or anything else new to the tank they may have caused it as well.

My tank is a 210 with a 50 gallon sump. I have not added anything new. My PH dropped to 6.0 on my API scale and that is the lowest it goes. I did a 50% water change and brought it up to 6.2. I don't know why it keeps dropping. I would like to slowly raise it to 7 and hopefully stabilize it.
