First peek at a new species of fish. I received 12 of these wild fish being called Paratheraps sp ‘coatzacoalcos’. From what I understand they are a Zonatum type fish with a very red tail. Looking forward to seeing them grow....and of course breed and get into the hobby.

Not much now...but even at 1 1/2" you can see the color developing.

love the hues it's hiding at a young stage... leaves a lot to the imagination

[FONT=&quot]The fish was collected in the RIo Carolina - a remote river in the coatzacoalcos drainage. The river also has bulleri and T. callolepis in it.

Could be just a very colorful variant of Zonatum...but Juan Miquel from CRC seems to think it's new...and he's generally NOT a "splitter" when it comes to species.

very nice Mo! keep us all updated.Nothing better than watching the little ones grow up. Best part of the hobby in my opinion. And a new species to boot!

Great pic! Will be interesting to see how they turn out.
