this was on an australian forum discussing the types of hybrid discus and about them breeding.

heiko states "The Flowerhorn cichlid is not a hybrid, it is a mutant, like the parrot cichlid, it is also a mutant, and so on. If anyone tells you that those are hybrids, then that is simply wrong. Because I supplied the original species to the Taiwanese breeder how did both mutant forms and saw in details on trips over their what he did with it. (And unfortunately became world-famous and he made a lot of money with those terrible monsters...)."

The fact that this isn't even remotely anything like a complete sentence leads me to doubt him automatically. The whole idea is ludicrous anyway. Too much evidence to the contrary.

If you keep reading the original thread, he is only claiming to have introduced the first flowerhorns from wild mutations back in the 80's. This is an entirely different claim than this thread suggested at the outset.

Interesting to say the least.

heiko bleher Doesn't get any respect from me, he is a huge exaggerator in his books.

He certainly bends the truth to grab attention.

I agree. Just another guy in the fish biz trying to make a name for himself.

does he even say who this "original taiwanese breeder" was? I was under the impression that this was a grey area, and that they originated in malaysia. Is he saying that he supplied the original stock used to make the ledgendary gods of fortune, ancient warship and whatnot? Because I'm pretty sure these were just vieja crossed with koksterish red devils

Ahahahahahaha, this is an interesting but funny thread. And talk about 80's, flowerhorn didn't even exist until the mid 90's or early 90's. Hehehe. :D
