Na, i wouldnt. Goto petsmart RIGHT NOW and get the Aquaclear 110, its 75.00ish

I have an emperor.
i 'like it' but i dont like doing the carbon.
I dont like how pricy the filters are.
i really dont like the fact my lid will not fit right.

I DO like the 400gph it does.
i like that it pushes the water forward and not stright down.
i like that it sucks from the very bottom of my tank.

Aquaclear is a better choice even better when its on petperks lol

Not a prob. I would also highly suggest Marineland H.O.T. Magnum 250 Canister Filter just for the polishing feature. I take my media out and use the hose on it. Spray the crap out of it and use it again. Saves me $15 on a new one. Really does a great job sucking up the little stuff i cant see. Fish could careless but it really makes it a center piece tank.

I personally don't think there is a better filter out there. The Emperor 400 is a fabulous design, has phenominal output and reliability.

Its media cartridges can be used for anything you want... I have ceramic rings in mine.

Spare filters can be made to fit it that cost about $0.05 each.

Its a fabulous filter.

You don't need to use the filter cartridges for the mechanical on the Emperor 400. I use the empty cartridges and put bio in there. Then, I cut quilt batting to size and put it in front of the bio cartridge. This is way cheaper than buying their cartridges for replacement all the time, and it works great.

Well considering you already have the rena, I doubt thst you would need any more biological filtration. So for added mech filtration get an AC110, much higher flow rate and easily cleaned sponges. Media wise nothing to replace, nothing to modify, best HOB filter you can buy.

I do/did the samething - filled the cartridges with bio rings and use a rena polishing pad, also was able to squeeze a custom bubble wand (poked larger holes) under the intake tube in the box and pump O2 directly into the water flow , fits like a glove.
