If you own a gar in a state where it's not legal, don't be an foolish and post pictures of it, say you have one for sale or say you want to buy one.

Heck, you shouldn't even have one or be looking for one in the first place.

Because if you do, you could be the next star of the lessons learned forum.

You never know who you're inviting!

No but you know what's in your tank's, and trust me there's a whole lotta google out there. If your wanting any new fish you should be searching it online...and if your doing that you should have an idea whats legal in your state.

Just out of curiosity, does MFK do anything to members posting pictures of fish illegal to their state? If not, linking them to this thread just seems to serve no purpose.

Sometimes I wish MFK was more pitbullish and just banned people who are breaking the law.

I agree. You should get 1 warning and then banned.

I don't know about posting pictures of illegal fish, but you can receive an infraction for soliciting them since you have to post exactly where the fish are or would be going. However, you can't know where everyone lives just by looking at their location if someone just posts a picture. And just because you post a picture of an illegal fish doesn't mean it's in your posession even if you say it is (if you recall the huge arowana pictures that people say are theirs but the pictures are really at an aquarium ). Wildlife laws can be very complex and are often misunderstood and misrepresented.

Those keeping fish legally could still learn from those keeping fish illegally so i dont know if banning members outright is a good idea. would probably just lead to lying. Members are definately at their own risk if they choose to own illegals. Im sure that big brother is watching. Definately should be some restrictions on sales. Id say if its illegal in your state, you cant list it for sale. Selling to a state where it is illegal should be banned also. Just my opinion. Sounds like not doing your homework can be expensive

In the native forum people are always posting up fish they either captured illegally, or are too small to be legally taken, and no one has ever done squat about it. It seems like the mods could care less about it most of the time...
