State of chaos
So I just saw a Virginia Opossum in my yard... a rare sight in the concrete jungle that is Brooklyn... but my ignorant parents want to have it trapped and relocated! Other than having a wild animal living in my yard, I'd prefer they just let the damn thing be, since they are native and are no more dangerous that Squirrels!! And if it has offspring somewhere, they would be fare game for the local stray cats...

What should I do????

I doubt it will be around long enough to be caught.

If your parents are ignorants, that makes you... Like you said, "a rare sight in the concrete jungle..." That animal doesn't belong there! Relocated is the right decision!

if you have cats or dogs it's probably better that the animal is relocated. or even if your neighbors have cats or dogs. oppossums are rabies carriers and they can do some SERIOUS damage to a loved pet..

Oh, Opossums definetaly live in Brooklyn. This is definetaly not the first, nor the last time we will have a Marsupial guest. But it's not often.

Never seen one and I'm in brooklyn too :(

And on a slightly off topic note...what happened to squirrels this summer? Haven't seen a single one ._.

Think Opossums arent any more dangerous than squirrels? Go play with it! A pissed off Opossum is a terrifying sight. I'd rather deal with a large dog than one of those things.

Possums can do some damage stay clear of it

That was not the point, or was your question, wasn't it? Your question was what should you do? Nothing! As long as you live with your parents, or eat from your parents, and if they want to trap and relocate an opossum or any animal, you can't do nothing! Saying an opossum is "no more dangerous that Squirrels" is very "ignorant!"
