This is heartbreaking. Our LFS got a 1500 gallon used acrylic tank a few months ago. They have been working on setting it up since then. They filled it today and at 12:30 pm, the bottom seam along the back gave out and it emptied in less than 5 seconds. The owner was STANDING BEHIND THE TANK when it happened.

Before it was on the stand

Here is the skimmer they were going to use

Yah it sucked bad.

Isn't this posted b4?

I remember reading a similar thread on MFK just a few days ago

Hopefully they were test-filling it with freshwater. !500 gallons of saltwater would be incredibly destructive... :WHOA:

terrible.

but it does go to show that the myth that acrylic tanks do not burst/leak is just that, a myth.

with glass or acrylic, there is always a chance. (touches wood)

glad no one was hurt.

my LFS had a 1500g acrylic shark tank spring a leak, after 8 years of being set up. they were able to drain and repair it though.

Wow, crazy. Tank looks like a very nice one, thats too bad I would have much rather seen pictures of it set up and running
