I have an Eheim 2250 kicking around that I haven't set up. Part of it is because I need to get the quick-detach pieces (shown on the end of the lower one below) but part of it is because I'm kind of dumb...

Which is the intake, and which is the output?

And why are they so different in size?

The one is a 1" ID tube, but the one coming out of the pump is tiny. Smaller even than the ones in a 2217.

I am assuming that the thinner one is the return. But until I order the parts and more tubing, I won't know for sure. I'm just confused by the massive difference in diameter.

This is dumb, I've had this and a leaky 2028 sitting in my closet for about a year, there's no reason I can't failsafe the leaky one and get both up and running to seed some extra biofiltration. Ultimately I want this 2250 to be part of a closed loop for extra substrate cleaning.

you got it, 1" inlet not sure on outlet the 2260 is 5/8" i guess the size difference is because the water is under pressure on the outlet side of the pump whereas on the inlet it is effectively a syphon. You won't be disappointed when you do get it going! The ultimate monster fish canister in my opinion.

OK cool, thanks. I feel slightly less clueless.

Now... anyone know where to get those easy-off valves?

(Actually, maybe they're out in my garage with the bulkheads. That sure would be helpful...)

I would think the 2260 would be the ultimate, right? Isn't it a few inches taller?

Ultimately this is going on a tank with 2 other FX5s. That'll be fun.

well technically the 2262 is the daddy! bigger with a bigger pump also. I have a 2260, i didnt use any connectors just jubilee clips onto the hose. That tank will be like a river tank!

Do your best to find the quick disconnect pieces, new ones are rather pricey.

I agree the smaller return hose is for pressure purposes although I do not bother with the spray bar with my 2250, it's around 10 years old running not stop and all original. Imo worth setting up and you'll be very happy with it.

The 2028 with leak issues is, if your lucky, the outside head gasket which is recessed in the bottom edge of the head.

If thats not it then its internal and requires two new O rings to be replaced inside the head. Easy fix, just unscrew from the bottom, take apart and replace the O rings.

What may be a challenge is finding these two O rings, ones bigger and the other is smaller. You'll have to do some searches here on MFK or try google. Should'nt take long.

Although not as trouble free as the eheim classic series the 2028 is still worth fixing imo. Good Luck.

The input is on the bottom, 25mm or 1", the output is off the pump, 12mm or 1/2". The Double taps for the intake hose are pricey, try Ebay or similar.
The Eheim 25/34mm hose is #794. The 12/16mm hose is #494.

The 2250 is about 16.5" tall and the 2260 is about 22.5" tall.

This is the first I've heard about two O rings. I bought the one from Atomic Rice a few years ago but it solved nothing. Back then it was a slow leak that only happened when it wasn't perfectly level, so I was still able to use it - I just kept it in a bucket and made sure it was level, never had a problem.

Last I tried, though, it was pouring right out the sides. So it seems like the outer gasket. I need to go get more silicone gel or vaseline to see if that helps. Even if it ends up going back to how it was, I can live with that. Especially once I get the upstairs tank set up... it has a fully sealed acrylic stand, which I can plumb with its own drain.

Wow, thanks.

You're not kidding. I can get the 12 for $13 shipped, but the best I see for the 25 is $90. That's ridiculous. I wonder if I could make an easy PVC ball valve and hose barb piece to accomplish the same thing without there being too much spillage when disconnecting.
