The Real Norcal
Here is my managuense. It was given to me for free by my LFS owner. It was in one of his display tanks and was kicking alot of his fish's butts, including a silver aro maybe 27" ,a 13" P.bass,a 10" flowerhorn and about 15" clown knife.

I am not good at guessing fish lengths through the glass but he is at least 10",maybe 11" or 12".

I had a 150 but I sold it last month because:
A)I needed the money.
B)It was used and I was offfered more money than I paid for it.

I will get another 150 next year again but not till maybe around this time next year, give or take a month maybe.

I know responsible fish keeping is preeched here on a regular basis and I understand this isnt the most responsible thing I could have done but at the same time I couldnt turn down a free Jag,already grown out to fair size.

the tank is only lightly decorated to give him the extra turning space and his tankmates are a pair of JD's a pleco and a bichir.the cave on the left is my JD's and the one on the right is for him.

My question(s) is will this Jag be okay for one more year? Was it selfish of me to take it knowing that my current tank is a bit small but a bigger one is coming?will it stunt his growth being in this 55 for another year?

If another year is just too long for him to be in a 55 I will have to find a new home for him I suppose.

when he's as long as the tank is wide its def. time for an upgrade. look at the end of the tank and that will let you know how much time you've got.

Do you know how old the fish is?

no Im not sure how old he is.Hes been at my LFS for maybe 2-3 months and I havent really noticed him getting any bigger over that time but maybe you notice stuff like that more when the fish belongs to you....

the guy told me he was sure it was a male.It does chase the JD pair sometimes but very lazy-ish and if they suddenly stop he just runs right into them and doesnt bite them.
he does love to drive them out of their cave just for fun though thats why I have the rocks stacked up so odd on the left side to try and make it too small for him to enter but its too late the JD's are convinced he can get in and when he comes to look inside the cave they hurry out the backdoor.
he bites the bichir and the pleco sometimes.
he eats shrimp but not as much as I figured he should for that size, and the other fish eat more than him, esp. the bichir.
I am not buying any more fish but when I had the 150 I purchased a juvenile pike that I was going to grow out and put in there.I am still growing out the pike but unfortunately he will eventualy be going in here with these fish when hes large enough and I am hoping that will do for at the bare minimum 8 more months.

If you are really getting a tank by next year, keep him. Im sure he will be ok, and wont be stunted. They would really grow very slow once they hit the 12" mark.
Im more worried about the other fish in that tank, once the jag gets comfy It will relentlessly try to kill its tankmates. I know mine did try, non-stop.:grinno:

clean tank!

If you do regular water changes and feed a healthy diet, he won't be stunted. You will be able to tell when its time to upgrade, his actions will show you.

I would keep him. Even if you have to set up a temp. pond or something. It isn't that bad for 8 months or whatever. Anyways once you get him back in a regular tank it will be like a new fish to you because you haven't really seen him in a while. I would set up a pond for him temp.
