So after a few days of treating with 15 cups of morons salt and heating the tank to 88 the ick that tried to spreed across the tank seems to be diminishing. The new "Sharks" fins are healing and looking to be on a generally better health.

I find just raising the temp to 87-89 degrees seem to take care of Ich. The salt may speed up the process but I can not say for sure.

I don't trust salt at all. I tried it many times but one time, all my barbs died the next day after dosing with salt.. I like the more conventional methods like using Kordon Rid Ich. Never ever had a problem with that medication and it works well.

Well this has sold me on UV If I use it no other time then for the first 90 days of new fish.

15 cups of salt? What size tank are you treating?

1 Cup is enough for 100 gallons.

I was gonna say...I think he meant 1 tbsp per 10 ten gallons

I always used 1 teaspoon per gallon. 240 US teaspoons = 5 US cups once ever 12 hours three times in a row. Then let them swim in the hot salt water to speed recovery, I tried to just heat the tank to 88 at first to save the plants but the ick started to spreed So i added salt and its looking better.

You are REALLY overdoing it with salt. You are lucky your fish haven't died.

Ich, is NOT hard to treat at all..

Do a 50% water change, and add fresh water- leave the temp. Don't add more salt.

Water changes is key- as they can be free floating in the water.

Your first problem is using MORONS salt....

"morons" i like what you did there, the is no proof of a problem with table salt. Pretty much most ick treatments use 2 to 3 teaspoons per gallon over time.

Also its my understanding that ick has 3 stages not just free floating. and free floating being the second of the 3 stages where the ick would stay in the decor and plants.
