So the refuguim mod is done and put back on the tank. As you can see from the pictures I have maintained the sponge filter and I have some Macro in there. But I do have a couple questions. First, do I need to be worried about the copepods being sucked into the filter and getting stuck in the sponge? Secondly, should I keep the activated carbon or Biomax stuff? I know alot of people use LR in the refugium. Wouldn't the biomax do a similar job of housing BB?

Lastly as I have added DT's copepods to the tank, I've read that the addition of phytoplankton is needed to grow and breed these little guys. Thoughts?

Thanks for all the help guys

I also need a lighting recommendation for the refugium. I've heard the old Coralife Mini Might's work well but they are hard to find because they don't make it anymore..

They shouldn't get sucked up if you replaced the impeller to a small one. (Which you need) I would say live rock is better because its more porous. Also phyto is not needed I don't have any and my pod population is insane. What macro is that? Doesn't look like chaeto

Does the filter have clear sides or is it black sided? If clear you can use a clip on light from the hardware store and just face it against the side of the filter where the algae is.

I don't think you need to add stuff for food for them. They will find enough to eat without you adding more nutrients to the water that can cause algae problems.

I currently have the stock impellar in. I know i need a smaller one. What size should I get? I believe he said it was a "mix" of chaeto and something else.

The refugium body is clear but "smoked" like it has a tint to it. Do i need to worry about light color or wattage?

Definitely not chaeto.

Go with the smallest one possible. I think the AC 20?

Alrighty then... ID please

Also do you know if any of the chain stores carry AC impellers?

I dont know what that is, but as far as lighting goes, a clamp on shop light from walmart and a 40w or 60w spiral CFL bulb at 6500 or 10k will work, all for about 15 bucks.
