Dang it..correct spelling is Geophagus Steindachneri
I stripped one (I have two) of my females for the first time tonight.. She'd been mouth brooding for a couple weeks now and the curiousity finally just got to me... So I set up the fry net and gave it my best shot.. I had learned a little from CLDarnell and just used what he taught me..
I held her in my hand with her head inbetween my thumb and index finger, gently putting a little pressure around her mouth so that it would open slightly.. I then shook her in very small strokes and of course very gently and in short intervoles... I did this several times with little breaks with her still in my hand.. they came out in bunches..
The females had fry before, turning out no more than about 10 or so.. but the fry would always get eaten... (hence the courisity).. Well not this time, there are probably 75-100 fry all free swimming!!! I honestly didn't expect so many...
Anyway their with me now, and I'll figure something out as soon as they are a little bigger.. so if your close enough and you want some, as soon as they are big enough.. they're yours..!
As I'm typing this up, the male and the SAME female are lip locking and shuffling next to each other...
here we go again.. I was actually told this would happen.. it's fun.. you guys just better be willing to take these little effers...
