Ok so bought a gar about 3 weeks ago and noticed about a week ago that he had some strange little bumps on him or her. They look like little warts or skin tags to me and the wife, however we cannot find anything on the internet that looks like what he has! We thought it might be lymphocystis or some type of cyst but again cannot find anything! If someone could please identify what it is and if it is dangerous or infectious to our other fish that would be great thank you! :nilly::nilly::nilly:

looks like lymphocystis, which is a common viral problem. it can't really be cured, but has to run its course and will go away on its own. just provide clean water and bump up the water changes (temp increase to 82F also helps). 1 tbsp salt per 20g can help a bit too, but isn't integral. should clear up in a matter of 1-2 weeks if not sooner. it can transfer to other fishes if they bit the gar or vice versa, but it's generally not lethal to the fish. good luck and keep us posted on the condition--

Thank you for your advise.
Do you have any idea how they get it? Because none of our other fish have ever had it. How do we prevent future breakouts?

Thanks again.
