I am going to be getting a standard 75 or 90 gallon within the next few months. :)

Right now the only fish that I will be putting in is my female JD.

I have been trying to think of possible tankmates. I thought maybe putting in an oscar and a few rainbow fish would be cool, but are rainbow fish fast enough to stay out of the oscars and JD mouth? Anyone have experience with this mixture of fish?

(There will be 2 Emperor 400's loaded with bio-glass for biological filtration, and a smaller HOB filter with some carbon in it) If that matters for stocking options..

Im open to any ideas and opinions on stocking this tank, if just has to include my female Dempsey, Thank you

O's are good but instead of rainbows try con's i believe they will last longer.

And if you go with Cons get HRP's they are much better looking :)

If you want u could probly get away with a rd..or maybe a texas..would be nice...if the jack is big enough a red devil would look hot...also a nice catfish would be cool..like a rtc or tsn or marble pim...

I would go with a texas, GT, or possibly firemouths depending on how aggressive your JD is also how big it is you never stated if it is already full grown or not. A Red Devil will probably end up beating the crap out of your JD. And a red tailed catfish, Tiger Shovelnose and Marbled pim will all get WAY to large for either size tank. Probably within 6 months to a year as they grow extremely fast. And even if they could grow to full length they would be plenty large enough to eat your JD. Also a salvini would be a good option.

Thanks for all of the replies and ideas everyone.

My JD is only about 2 inches. I would like to stay away from a Red Devil and convicts only because of their aggression. They are both awesome looking fish tho. A salvini would be cool, so would a green terror, and texas. Im pretty much open to anything..

So everyone thinks that rainbow fish wouldnt last in a tank like this? I was hopeing for a few really active colorful fish also.

I highly doubt rainbow fish would last in there. There is a chance if they all start out young together but I would put my money against it. I believe about the biggest the larger rainbow fish can get is somewhere in the 5-7 inch range but they are going to grow slower than your cichlids. I had a couple bosemani's in with a Jag, synspilum and butterkoferi but they were twice size at the time and it was only temporary.

tinfoil barbs or possibly giant danios but the danios only get to around 6". I personally would go with the silver dollars but that is my prefernce. I think tinfoil's get kinda ugly the larger they are.
