hey, all. sometime next year i'd really love to get a bichir, but I don't have a whole lot of room for a tank... do you think i could get away with a senegal in a 40G, or is a 55G my only option for life?

40 long is fine for any upper jaw specie, a 40 breeder would be better tho.

K.... and i'd take up all the bioload full grown, correct?

40 would definitely be fine for a Senegal.

K... would there be room for anything else, or is a lone senegal the only fish i could have in there?

A 55 Gallon will do the fish for life. They must also have 3 inches of air between the hood and the water level for them to breathe thus not as aseptable to water conditions as some large fish. but they caan slither out of the smallest of cracks in the hood.

but yes you can do

a bit of info.

well... since the senegal is the only fish i would really want in there, i'll just do a 40G. I was just wondering if there was any extra room to get a few congo tetras, (my mother loves them) but i don't have my heart set on them. any ieads for african plants other than anubias?

not to my knowledge, but they don't mind being kept together. (I may be wrong) quite agreeable little buggers.
