how does the water flow through a fluval fx5? i thought it flowed from the bottom up, but now I think i am mistaken. anybody know? i am putting pre-filter media in and i want to know whether it should go on the top tray or the bottom tray.

i found my answer. the water flows from the top to the bottom and is pumped out from the bottom. sorry for the wasted thread.

I use filter floss on the top basket. Change it once a week, it's been going on three months now with out having to clean out the entire filter.

i just got the eheim emech pre-filter ceramic cylinders for my top layer. the waterflow seems unrestricted now. thanks for the info though.
