Hello- Wanted to start out by saying I'm new to the forum even though Its helped me for months with my fish care.

I recieved my new wolf at 9" from sharkaquarium bout a month ago now. He is currently in a 180gallon 6-2-2 by himself which was fully cycled a month prior to recieving him. At sharkaquarium his diet consisted of just feeders from my understanding. I decided to give him a few to try to get eating in his new home. It took a week before he eat any of them. I fed him feeder 2 a day every other day for bout 6 days and decided to make the switch to frozen foods because the fact that goldfish are not good

. I picked up some tilipia, catfish nuggets, and silversides to try them all. I tried a piece of each everynight now and still not interested in any of it. I've also tried soaking the food in some garlic gaurd... but still no luck. It has been quite awhile now that he has eaten and I'm getting worried almost to the point of given in to given him a few feeders. Just looking for some ideas on new foods and techniques. Should I give in and give him a live?

On another note this is my first hoplias and Id like to know if the sit and hide all day and swim, but easily scared at night is typical new hoplias behavior.

Thnx

Chris

DOnt worry about the fish not eating.. wolf fish are capable of going a atleast a couple of weeks without eating especially at 9''. why dont you try the technique i used on my elongatus.. every 3 days try a piece od silverside.. on the 9th day if he still dont eat, your gunna have to give in a throw in like 2 or 3 goldfish.. then start again.. eventually hunger will get the best of him.. but becareful removing ueaten silversides with a wolf of that size they can inflict a nasty bite

Howdy & Welcome to MFK!

Great /\/\onster that you got

My wolf just reached 9''. He is on a shrimp diet (spiked with catfish pellets) and does very well. I feed him about two hours after the lights go out at night, using tonges. If so far you have tried feeding him during the day, then that was probably the problem. They're nocturnal. There are a few reports on these wolves eating at daylight, but they have to be either very hungry or very comfortable in their environment to do so.

Good luck and keep us posted,
HarleyK

My wolves ( be they Malas, Gold or Rainbows ) make no distinction betwen light and dark. They eat whenever. But it also happens that they go on hunger strike sometimes. When this happens, I throw in a feeder, just to make sure they're not sick.
G Luck
