Extremely thin goonch

Just received this guy yesterday from fedex and in the bag before I put him in the tank he looked great but once I placed him in i noticed that it is EXTREMELY THIN! It is around 10-12" long and the vendor I had got him from said he'd been feeding it bloodworms. There is no doubt that that's 1 of the reasons it's so thin but my concern is that I don't think it can swim :/. I noticed that it was in the back corner of the tank all day and never moved from that spot so I used a net and kinda moved him and it just wiggles around like a worm. It couldn't swim anywhere. It is still in the display tank because I do not have an extra tank to place it in. The good news is that it ate 2 or 3 pieces of cut up smelt but it couldn't turn to grab them. I had to wedge the food in between the glass and its mouth and it ate it like that. My questions are, to fatten it up, do I just feed everyday or just a normal feeding schedule? And is the reason he can't really swim because it is so thin? Thanks guys. All advice is greatly appreciated.

Don't overload his system just yet. Feed more and more each day. gradually. Not all at once. And maybe stuff the smelt with massivore. Looks like your doing the right thing, just keep it up and he should pull through. A steady diet should get him back to normal quick. Just if he can't swim limit the flow that gets to him or create him a dead spot in the tank for now.

Also, I fed him 3 more pieces of smelt stuffed with massivore. Hopefully this helps him

Yea, Nice goonch. You should see him start to strengthen up more each day. If not there could be a parasitic issue.

I've seen a TSN once that had tape worm and it looked liked that. Give it few days of feedings and see if you can observed it defacate. The good news is some prazi will fix it pretty quickly if that's the case. It's good looking fish otherwise.
 
Thanks guys. Do you think the reason it can't really swim is cuz it's so thin? Sorry, I've never allowed a fish to become so thin before or have bought 1 so malnourished until now

You are more humble than I good sir as I'd have been on the phone ripping that "vendor" a new one for that fish.

He is probably having trouble swimming due to malnutrition but as suggested keep an eye out for IP as well. Prazi takes care of a good number of IP's and very efficiently too so it may not be a bad idea after about a week to dose his tank anyhow just as a precaution. Listen to Tom haha he just recently gave me great advice for a fungus issue on one of my pickerel and it worked after months of me struggling to find a cure haha.

Good luck, if he's eating prepped food you are on the right track and I'd put money on him recovering completely.
