State of Emergency
I am thinking of building a stand to hold 2x55g & a 47g bow front. Once I convince the wife that the TV needs to go.

I am planning on linking the tanks with some sort of 'over the top' piping/tunnel to allow water to go from from tank to tank. (not the fish) This part I have tentative plans for...

The water will overflow from one end, then return the other end, passing through the middle tank via the connections mentioned above.

There will be a W/D with sump under the tanks

The covers will be glass, & I still need to decide about lighting.

I thought if anyone has a similar setup, they might post some pics to help inspire me.

that would be possible but i wouldnt risk the piping on thetop

try and find (build) matching stands for all three tanks and put the sand decor (gravel plants wood etc) in the4 tank to makeit look as if it's continuous, but then put like an oscar in one and like neons in the other. people will be like how did you train the oscar to not eat the little fish?
idk, i think that would be funny.

I agree the over the top pipes would scare me out of trying it. I would however consider drilling (Paying someone to do it) something like a 4" hole in the sides then using silicon between the tanks to seal the gap between the tanks. The after that is cured get a 4" silicon based grommet type thinggy (Not sure if one exists) that you could also use silicone and place over the cutouts edges sealing them even more. Then to prevent fishies from going through you could just insert a 4" drain grate.

Just thinking off the cuff and it is late so sometimes I get a little crazy, just incase it sounds like it.. lol

if you could do the same thing with acrylic tanksi'd say just drill them. but those are more $$$. have the inflow on one end and the out on the other.

You can do the tubes, however, this is dangerous. It can be done, and I have done the U tube idea. It just takes a lot of work and dialing to get it to work.

What would the benefit be of this set up? I think you would be better off to have a seperate overflow for each tank into a common sump.

i agree.

another option is to reduce the height of the walls in such a way that would allow a flow from the left to middle to the last tank. Make sure the connections are leak proof though. Then, on the last tank you can put a powerhead that brings the water to an overhead wet/dry system that is as long as your set-up. This filtration's output will spill on the left, completing the cycle.

yet another option is to drill the bottom of the tanks and have the bridge (U-Pipe) from UNDER the tanks. This way all the tanks will have the same water level since you dont have to make an overflow for each. This way you could hide the pipes from sight by having them being flush to the bottom, just put some sort drain plate on top and then you could put gravel on top of that. Just do an overflow on the last tank and pump it back up at the other end and Voila !
