denver,nc..
i'm considering installing a automatic water changer in my large aquarium.. i have a 11/2" drain cleanout in the wall under my tank and have been wanting to do a drip system for constantly refreshing the water in my ray tank..i would pipe the inlet into the top of the tank and install a 1" bulkhead in the wet/dry at water level (under the tank)to drain out through a 11/2" ptrap and check valve.. my concern is the water i'm putting into the tank is unfiltered tap water.. should i run the tap water through some sort of filtration like a reverse osmosis or just a carbon filter or what.. anyone with experience or knowledge please let me know.the water will run through a small water heater first to bring it to about 84 degrees or so..anyone??

I have a auto water change system just like you described above. I filter my water with 2 house filters. The first one is a sediment filter to catch all the big stuff. The second is a carbon filter. I got both my units from Home Depot for 30.00 each. My water is always nice and clear and the PH is fairly constant and all other parameters are low and stable. The auto change system is nice to have.

i have been wanting this for awhile also
i know a member that mixes tap water with prime through a doseing pump to a holding tank then to the main tank
his 5000 gallon is crystal clear very nice
this method would save me alot of time
