Hi everyone! What do you do when you need more TANK space, have the tanks, but don't want to use up any more FLOOR space...? Go vertical is the answer.....

Here's the first batch of timber and the start of construction... This isn't for monster tanks, we're only talking 30" long and 12" deep, but it all adds up...

The tank you can see in the background is going to sit on the bottom shelf....flush with the woodwork. The tank I've slotted in to the stand is going to sit on the top as a grow out for my baby Cons... Everything is painted up with gloss white prior to assembly to prevent water ingress. All held together with screws, nickel plated where exposed.... The middle shelf will have a little 4 gallon quarantine/hospital tank and food and meds...

More construction pics.... The plywood you see, along with all the other wood, is scavenged off the building site I'm working on, so this has cost me a big fat zero apart from screws, paint and time...

Putting the top rails on and starting to fill and sand and paint.....

Nearly finished....and fitting the lights for the bottom tank.... You'll all have to wait for the finished product because I havn't developed that FILM yet! Yes, I'm still old school and don't have a digi camera yet...! Just putting this thread together, getting 2 spools developed with a CD of the pics cost more than the materials for the stand! Don't worry, a Nikon Digital SLR is in the works VERY soon, so I'll be able to share more often, quickly and cheaper! This project has shown me the error of my ways!

Not a bad thread for someone that's been ripping and banging all day, went straight out to the nearest beer garden 'cos the weathers amazing, got half cut on cider and just set his bin alight emptying an ashtray into it...! Yes - I hadn't checked to see if the last ciggie was out properly.....but hey, that's what your can of Strongbow is for - firefighting! Hope you like my design and I promise to get completed pics to you as soon as they're developed!

Looks good.
Im worried about how much weight those screws can handle because it looks like all the weight is on them....

The screws are 3" long and yes, all the weight of the bottom and middle shelves are on the screws but there's 4 of them at each corner. The top shelf rests on the uprights. I tested the bottom shelf by jumping up and down on it, and it ain't goin nowhere. The tank that's sitting on it is 30x18x12, so it's not that big. I'm sitting here typing looking at the stand right now and it's not moved an inch...! But I appreciate your concern....

A watched stand does not collapse LOL - nice work!
