the glass is a little bit dirty, and the one tank is practically living (algae).

the one is a ten gallon filled with bluespotted, black banded, and banded sunfish, small bullhead. (plus two baby musk turtles), the other is 55 with blue gill, redear, black crappie, mudsunfish, channel cat, and red eared slider. Both tanks have freshwater mussels

Welcome! Are the mud sunfish the ones with the dark stripes? They are great!

Those are black banded sunfish. The pictures dont do them justice. The mudsunfish is in the 55, you can barely see him he is about 3 inches.

What;s their native range? I really like them!

i think they are usually limited to the eastern coastal states. I live in jersey, and they are hard to find. Only certain ponds in the pine barrens contain this species, but the one pond i find them, their is a nice population (eventhough i knew i have seen one illegal collector who makes a business selling these fish).

ewurm- http://www.natureserve.org/explorer/ is a great website for finding the distribution of native fish. just type in the scientific name and it will five you so much information on the species. It says their located on the east coast.

Awesome link, thanks!

with the turtles, it depends. The small musk turtles are to little to do any harm. The red eared slider depends on his mood, he is quite lazy. Some fish he leaves alone, others he gets bored and chases. If it lasts more than 5 days, then the fish is their to stay. The sunfish are more aware and keep out of his way, the catfish is to fast. However, the other day i placed a 5 inch sucker i caught during the weekend, and he was mysteriously gone the next morning. All was left was a catfish with fat stomach and fat turtle.
