I caught this guy in a stream behind my house. I actually caught two of them. To me it looks like some sort of trout, but I'm not sure.

Anyone know what it is?

looks like a good feeder to me?

oh yeah.......my LMB and Smallie were very happy tonight.

i asked my brother cause he is the one out fishing all the time, and he agrees with you, he thinks its possibly a golden trout, but a little young to tell

Yes, some kind of trout. You did right by feeding it to the other fish. Trout need refrigerated water and VERY GOOD aeration/water flow, etc. Very demanding fish.

I didn't really ever plan on keeping them, but they were just about dead by the time I got them to the tank anyway.

Good Feeders. I'm going to put my minnow trap in the stream this weekend.

Wild stocks of trout are in bad shape nationally. Taking trout fry/fingerling is about as unethical as it gets (not to mention carries serious penalties).

Why did you take the fish home? I'm glad you didn't release it back into the wild but what a magnificent fish to simply use as a feeder. Quite honestly, you should be ashamed of yourself.

WILD TROUT!!! AS FEEDERS!!!!

I guess this is a good time to mention, as people who get in the water and keep our own wild caught fish......You're not supposed to take fish home that you can't identify....ever!

Get a book for crying out loud!

Dude it was two fish. I wanted you all to ID them for me. This stream pretty much dries up every year and anything stuck in these pools die anyway.

Don't get your panties all up in a bunch. There is a way you can educate me without crying and being an ass.

In this case I WON'T go put my minnow trap in the stream. Crawdad trap yes...Minnow trap no.

I'd appreciate it if you either didn't post in here or try not to cause trouble. I'd rather this thread not get closed. I'm VERY open to your information ... I very much don't want to harm any wild habitat anywhere....I live for the outdoors...

Just don't be so damn pissy.

Alright, calm down, calm down. I agree with Teleost that you shouldn't have kept the trout, but I also agree, the effect was minimal. Just don't do it on a continual basis.
