I'm just curious on peoples opinions on collecting reptiles from the wild for pets. I don't mean as in for resale or in vastly large numbers or anything.
But say, what about species that are incredibly common, hardy, and you have a good understanding on what that animals captive care requires.
I've seen people getting yelled at for "rescuing" turtles and things like that on impulse, wich IMO is kinda irrisponsible because you should know about the animal and be prepared to keep it BEFORE getting it no matter if it came from a store or your back yard.
But what about someone who has the proper knowledge and setup for a certain species going out with the full intent to collect and keep a certain desired specimen?
Personally, I think, if you are already prepared for the animal, and you aren't making any major impact on the surrounding environment or population of that species by removing that animal from there I think it's ok. Just curious what others think.
