I am going to make this Penthouse style apartment above a 55g..

I have the cube for the top (although it is only like 8 inches)... I will be using 4" PVC for the elevator.. there will be holes cut in the pipe so fish can get in...

This is going on my African tank, the fish are 2-4 inches (except one) so they will fit...

I am trying to think of a way to get fresh water into the top, so its not a dead spot...

Thought one ... put a fitting on the top with a tube down to a pump in the tank...

Thought two ... Ask my friends here for other ideas.. :duh:

Thanks in advance ...

.

just have a powerhead blowing directly up into the cube .

Its only a small space so I would just leave it. Water will diffuse particles and chemicals naturally and equally (Physics101) and fish traffic will add water movement. Heat rises however and may be trapped so dont keep heater underneath.

Why dont you use a smaller aquarium turned upside-down and make it a REAL penthouse?

Can't wait to see this one.

The plan .. make this small scale prototype.. then modify a 10g into a sealed box with a hole in it to accommodate the elevator pipe...

the idea came from my daughters hamster cage ..

On a bad note, It turns out I will be extremely busy the next few weeks & wont be starting this for about a month..

we put this on for her hamster, & I said hmmmm.....

Cool idea, I would route a small tube to the top of the cube and pull the water out though a small pump, this may also pull out any air that could collect there.

Haha thats a really weird idea. I like it though.

Love the concept. It'd give the fish a good place to get away from everyday hustle and bustle. But its debatable whether the fish would accept suich a small place all the time.
