my gar has hemmorhagic septicemia(red tail base and red vains in tail) and my rtgg has fungus(white balls similar to ick but much larger at tips of fins) and frayed fins, and of course the rest of my fish show slight signs here and there of problems to come. ive tried the raised temp to 85 and salt with no change, ive tried paraguard(cure-all my ass) which stressed my ck heavily, and now im doin the pima/mela with no change. its been 3 weeks and nobody is gettin worse but deffinely not gettin better either. i dont know what to do and i dont have a hospital tank so i gotta treat the main tank. PLEASE HELP ive bout had.

One of my fish had septicemia and I bought a medicine called Kanacyn. The company that sold it is no longer in business, but it is the same thing as Kanamycin Sulfate. It will treat both the septicemia and the fungus.

At the time I also had to treat my main tank and it didn't bother any of my other fish. When you dose the tank, you will have to make sure that you remove all carbon filtration and do water changes every other day. Use airstones or power heads to circulate the water some as it can cause some fish to have difficulty breathing. It only took a day or so to see noticeable improvement in my ailing fish and about 5 days to finish the treatment.

I would advise also trying to figure out why the fish have septicemia and fungal problems, whether it be water quality, injuries, etc. You can buy Kanamycin Sulfate here at this website http://www.fishyfarmacy.com/products2.html#K .

Good luck to you and I hope your fish recover.

It will be because of an ammonia problem. You will also need to fix the cause since there is no point fixing the symptoms. Addition of heavy dose of salt will help but you do need to fix your biological filtration (water quality). Perhaps your overfeeding? Buy an ammonia test kit or take a water sample to a knowledgeable aquarium store. Be aware most medications will damage your biological filter.

fish were bought with these problems, didnt notice the septicemia till i already had the fish home and was too impatient to find a rtgg without fungus. i test my water twice a week and everything is great.

Kanamycin, Binox, tri-sulfa, oxytetracycline, or a combo of Maracyn and maracyn 2, can all work if administered quickly. You need just about any good wide spectrum antibiotic that targets gram-negative bacterial infections. The septicemia is the main concern right now as the fungus is probably a secondary infection. Act quickly as this is quite lethal to fish.
