In The Little Town Of Bedrock!
Im going to have a bichir in there that will reach around 12-14 inchs, other then that let your minds wonder. I was thinking maybe a GT and JD mix IF possible, im a noob to cichlids especially CA/SA cichlids so dont spaz on me for plans on overstocking.

Id like something with lots of personality and can be a show piece to guests and by that i mean a colourful, personality full cichlid and prefrably meduim - large in size.

Africans will probably suit your need way better. They are all the colors of the rainbow and C.A. S.A, with the exception of dwarfs and apistos are just too big for a 55. A 40 breeder is even better as it is 18" wide. You could buy a bunch of babies, expecting to loose some as time goes, and get a bigger tank in the near future. But if a 55 is all you are going to do for life, a pair of salvinis, or a couple singles species will work but not for life, just many years.

So then i cant even manage 1 JD or 1 GT in the tank with a bichir? About the africans they are nice but they arent my style i like they colours but i just really dislike them so some reason, i dont know why to be honest just something about them. I belive i read some where that a 55 is fine for a GT but it could have been untrue info. JD have amazing colours and yes this would be a lifetime tank unless i upgrade to a 75 but that wouldnt be in the near future, money is kinda short at the moment but i would think in about 1-2 years id upgrade to a 75 for sure if not larger. Mothers already given me permission to have a large tank in the summer kitchen if i buy it they'll pay for floor reinforcements LOL

You would be fine with a GT in there. They max out around 10 inches. A single GT in a 55 looks great when fully grown (in your case, with a bichir too).

I have a small Goldsaum in a 55, and I know he would definitely not tolerate a JD, and he would probably not tolerate a bichir either. You would not be overstocked with a GT, JD, and a bichir (although, if the bichir reaches 11-12 inches, he will be too cramped). The question is whether these fish will get along or not.

So i COULD fit all 3 in there or either the bichir and the JD/GT. Like you said it all depends on temperment to begin with but if i was to place them all in there at the same time, it should give a better chance as to aggresion problems in the the future? For decorations should it be left open for swimming space or give them a few hiding spots some decorations or can i go all out with lots of decorations and stuff?
