I would say wet-dry with submersed media also... Also you could do fluidized bed filter with k1 but it's a bit more expensive and louder I heard...
There's this guy on YouTube that has two trickle towers in his sump, plus submersed media, and some plants.. I'll see if I can link the video, his was made by a company but you could easily make it yourself, trickle tower you can do bio balls off amazon which are like $4 for 50 and plastic pot scrubbies are cheap and effectiveyeah K1 is out of the question !
