Just a quick update on this.

I have pressurised co2 now, though ironically I lost the seal for the regulator; so I'm unable to run it until Friday!

Plant growth has been sort of slow, I added 2 bamboo shrimp yesterday. Reticent to add anything else, as its at a nice level just now; with some red cherries purchased also. Water changes are 20 litres a week.

Amongst the carpet plants, I'd say the Monte Carlo and staurogyne repens are doing the best on liquid carbon

thanks buddy :) I got rid of all the wood apart from the single piece, as its the most striking; wanted to have room for the plants and lots of water circulation. I recently treated the tank to praziquantel as well, since i suspected my minnows had flukes. Since then they've been much, much more active; shoaling and exploring everywhere, so I can only assume something was really stressing them before.

also added blyjxa japonica, as well as finally settling on a corner sponge filter, with two wavemakers; giving me roughly 40x turnover. I decided that i dont care if the sponges vent off co2, i'll just bubble more in.

Also noticed that the plants have become far more vibrant in their green colours, and that's just with liquid carbon; definitely recommend it to anyone looking to try low/medium tech set-ups.

wish I could! :D My phone camera has been broken for some weeks, hopefully fix soon though so I can get some new pics up; basically in the recent few weeks, I've been overrun with staghorn algae and BBA.

While this is extremely frustrating, I've been attempting to solve the problem so I've been changing more water, upping co2 and added a large hob to replace the sponge filter; since it was suggested elsewhere that the sponge was gassing off all my Co2. Even though my dropchecker goes lime green, I figured i'd try the change.

Ideally it'll be back to normal for when I can get pics, i really hate algae just now :p
