I've had my Atractosteus spatula for more than 12 years and it is only about 38". View attachment 908230
well here ya go. 12 years and only 38" (dont mean that is small just smaller than i would have thought). 3 ft width is obviously still to small though.

Males are much smaller from what I gather. Even then, females take decades to get very large. I think it's great someone has kept a gator gar for 12 years. So many don't. I've had one for a little over a year now and it's 26". I hand feed it. It's looks like feeding a baby alligator, only very gentle and graceful. Some times I play tug with it and it loves to be pet all over. Incredibly social creature. I have plans to get it a very large tank in the near future. I'm hoping Garp is a female since they get much larger.
