Hi my name is Calvin,

I currently only have a 26 gallon community tank with passive fish. I'm about to get a 55 gallon tank and I was wondering if I could get a few more experienced opinions about arowana care. I would be getting a silver arowana that would be only 6 inches. The things that I am unclear about are the frequency of water changes, when he would outgrow the tank, and what I should feed it.

Thank you!

You'd be changing the water minimum of 50% weekly I'd say, and you'd have probably less than a year in a 55. You figure a standard 55 is 13 inches wide, the fish is already half the width, growing at maybe an inch per 1.5 months. I wouldn't suggest it.

Welcome. Getting into an arowana is not a cheap business when it comes to upgrades, i would recommend having the ideal tank ready beforehand, many people dont expect the growth rates of well looked after fish.

As for food people feed market shrimp, cut fish, crickets, floating pellets and a few other things. Use those as a guideline since i have not kept aros before but this is what i have seen to be effective

My 540 with two 34" and 36" arowana was too small. I got them at like 18" and 24" and they grew so fast in my big tank. The guy had them in a 125 gallon and says he rescued them...lol

Just start with one of those snap frame pools, cost about 15 to 20 dollars here, just brace edges and add a sort of tent of mesh to prevent jumping
