UPdate!
4 months later and I finally got some sweet bichirs!!!! 3 Laps and 1 ornate.

I have them in a 70g quarantine tank, hope that is enough room for a little while. Apparently, the ornate is a biter so he may need to be rehomed.

A few questions:
is the qt tank okay for about a month?
Do bichirs do better in groups or as the single species of the tank?
How do they get along with Rays, lungfish, fire eels, and Fly River turtles?
These guys are pushing 16-17", is my 7-8" eb Jack Dempsey a potential snack?

Thanks Bichir forum!

bichirs do better in groups and I recommend 8 or more bichirs to divert the aggression. Bichirs are ambush nauternal predators so they usually don't bother any fish unless during feeding time. They like to hide or pile onto other bichirs to feel secure. I don't know how they will get along with ray, FRT, or lung but I have seen people keep them with fire eel.i think your Jack Dempsey should be able to hold his own ground since bichir are not aggressive.

Congrats on the pick up. EB jack Dempsey should be fine with the new polys. As for qt, it's up to u. What a cool combo u got with the FR Turtle, eel, and lungfish. A video or pics is warranted once these go in :)

Id worry about the lungfish nipping them. The eel should be fine if girthy enough, same for jack, if it's taller than they are wide you are good to go. As for Rays, watch the stingers is all I can really say.

Thanks for the info. I am working on the video of the new stock. The eel is in a different qt for the time being, and the ray is in growout. I am saving my pennies to get an Australian Lungfish, lol, hopefully when they arrive in March.

knobhill knobhill great set ups and livestock as always. Would consider garnet sand (purple or red :)) for the markings to come out on the laps?
