I do not find aragonite substrate raises my tap pH of 7.8. Fifteen years and still nothing, LOL.

First you need to raise it with baking soda and once it is at the correct pH you can keep it there with buffering substrate.

I also found that when I had aragonite substrate and limestone rocks in the tank, that these alone did not cause a significant pH increase in my tank water. There are a few dynamics at play in this scenario, so maybe you will see better results.
