Thanks.

The thing is I was hoping with harder water, they won't spawn. Alf gets too thin for my comfort. Plus there is a third male that has been added and ... let me put it this way - a lot of scales have gone missing from everyone, even female Kinky, which appears to coincide with the start of the season of passion...

I'm a bit envious of your situation. I've actually taken an interest in this species as a breeding project, although there is very little(if any) profit to be obtained...

Baby aros are offered at around $50-$70 at brick-and-mortar LFSs around here. While they can be had for $30 or less from local on-line vendors like snookn21.

Anyhoo, I didn't do much special except my water was super soft for the first two spawns, like KH and GH of 1 degree or less. John Kreatsoulas (snookn21) thought my success was due to the soft water because his is hard and he never could get them to spawn.

So I raised the hardness to about 3-4 degrees.

Will continue experimenting bit by bit.

Do you recall exact spawning date of your last? Have you obtained multiple spawns from one female? thebiggerthebetter thebiggerthebetter

The dates are listed in that post #39 referenced above, to the best I could.

I have only one female, Kinky. And three males - Alf, Freddie, and a new comer Flap. Kinky had three spawns, two last year and one, a bit later in a year, this year.

I'm just trying to compile as much data on known US spawns as possible(and there isn't much). Thanks again for input. thebiggerthebetter thebiggerthebetter

HTH.

Will see in about a month if I harvest anything out of Alf's jaws.

There's a write up in 'Breeding Aquarium Fishes', Book 1, Axelrod (TFH) on the 1st captive recorded spawning of the silver aro in 1966 in Long Beach, CA.
