Choosing your Lungfish

So you want to get yourself a lungfish? Maybe you already have had one or more before, or maybe this is your first lungfish. Either way, this guide will help you to choose the lungfish for you.

Please proceed to start the selection process.

Step #1

Do you want to keep other similar-sized fishes with your lungfish?

1. Yes (Go to Step #2)
2. No (Go to Step #3)

Step #2

How large of an aquarium are you willing to provide the lungfish?

1. 180 gallon aquarium or larger (Go to Post #2)
2. 280 gallon aquarium or larger (Go to Post #3)
3. None of the above (Go to Step #4)

Step #3

How large do you want the lungfish to have the potential to get?
1. 2 feet long (Go to Post #4)
2. 3 feet long (Go to Post #5)
3. 4 feet long (Go to Post #6)
4. 6 feet long (Go to Post #7)
5. None of the above (Go to Step #4)

Step #4

Based on your choices, it seems that lungfish are not the fish for you, and you are either unable to provide adequate housing for a lungfish or want the lungfish to be larger or smaller than the potential maximum sizes for the various lungfish species. If you are still set on getting a lungfish, please read through the species profiles contained within the “Lungfish Captive Care Guide” to see if you can properly care for a lungfish.
