cichilds that eat huge prey

was just wondering what cichild species often prey on fish almost their size ? DO haps being fish eaters ever eat big fish?


ALSO what is the largest fish you have seen an oscar eat? I keep hearing stories of them chomping down big fish but their mouths are not as huge as something like a bleeki

There's some peacock bass that is fully capable to tackle down some larger items. But largemouth bass which can tackle even bigger prey.

These Oscars are nothing to compare with peacock bass...

Oscars will eat anything that will fit in there mouth. or try to. that being said about a 4 inch fish about it for a 12 to 13" oscar.

I've seen Peacock bass eat siblings making it hard to tell which way there swimming due to the huge body and tail sticking out of there mouths.

Not a Cichlid but an interesting story....20 + years ago I had what was sold to me as a "red" snakehead?? Bought him for 4$ at roughly 2 1/2 inches long, from Woolworths. Kept him for a year and he grew to a touch over 12 inches. A few weeks prior to giving him to a pet store a buddy gave me another snakehead, same kind, roughly 8-9 inches long, figured I'd trade them both in an get something else. I came home one evening and the 12 inch had the 8-9 inch about 2 inches into his mouth, head first. I got him loose but he didn't make it. I was absolutely stunned.
