How about getting a smaller fixture?

I have 3 foot fixtures, I put 2 of them cross-ways, running from front to back of the tank. So the ends of the tank are not as well lit as the middle of the tank and quite shaded. The fish don't really seem to care.

I also use a shorter fixture. I currently have a 24" LED on my 72" 180 gallon tank. The shyer fish do seem to like the darker side areas.

Similar strategy here. I use a 48" fixture on my 180g Bichir tank. Centre is bright, ends are shaded
