Right now I have a single 23w 6500k full spectrum bulb on the tank. I'm going to use any ferts or a co2 system. From what I've read, I don't need to if I'm using potting soil.
Right now I have some hornwort, anacharis, and a mystery plant that my gf brought home.
This is what it looks it after 100% change.

Nice! The plant in the lower middle looks like Dwarf Sagittaria.

That appears to be it! Thank you sir.
I went out for a few hours and the water still looks good. Maybe this last change was some progress lol

So it's been a few weeks and the water is still turning brown after water changes.
At what point would it be safe would add fish to the tank?

The tannins definitely won't harm the fish. As long as no Ammonia/Nitrites are showing up on tests, you're probably good to go. Like I said on YouTube, I would definitely give Purigen a try. It's solid stuff.

I can't test the water because it turns brown about 8 hours after a water change. I'll be using cycled media anyways so I think nitrogen wise the tank will be fine.
I need to order the purigen. So that'll get here when it does.
But I wasn't sure if the tannins could do any harm. The water is pretty dark haha

Assuming they're hardy fish, I'd go for it. You have to remember that plants will feed off of the excess nutrients to some extent. My best advice is to heavily stock the tank with lots of fast growing stem plants (Hyrgrophila, Cabomba, Ludwigia, etc.)

The tannins are kind of come and go now. I did a change and the water looked good for a day. Did another change and the water turned to tea.
Here's one of the new additions...

I feel like that corie is going to exacerbate the issues when it starts rooting around in the soil haha
