I've heard they take donations occasionally... Any Detroiters know if this is true? I've met some people who claim to have kept fish until they got too big and then donated them. I have a redtail cat I'm going to have to get rid of (moving into an apartment) and none of my local fish stores will take him because they don't have room for him. I don't know anyone nearby I could give/sell him to and I don't have the means to ship him. Donating him to Belle Isle seemed like a good option... Opinions?

If they will accept, sounds like a good plan. I'm not familiar with that particular aquarium, so I can't comment on the probability of them accepting them. Usually depends on the availability and health of specimen being offered. Best of luck finding a new home for him.

Sounds like a long shot depending on size of the aquarium, worth a try of course.

Another lesson about people getting fish that outgrow their capabilities.

If he is moving to an apartment how is that outgrowing his capabilities?

Think its worth a try, life has a way of changing what we could do before and what we can now. I applaud your efforts to get him into a good home. :)

Ummm...... he could move to another house that still wouldn't have a large enough aquarium.
