sadly just recently, my gar had some kind of illness with about 20 redish pink things coming out of his body and fins so i moved him in a 55 gallon and he got worse and i just could NOT put him down so i put him in a local pond
so..because you could not kill it ...you put it in a local pond where it will suffer and die..AND infect other native fish?...................

please please never ever release a fish EVER ..non native fish spread diseases that your local fish have no defenses agents.

what you did was highly irresponsible, and 100% illegal in any state in the US.

For your information, my gar IS local in my area and are very common!

doesn't matter if they are local. once a fish is taken from the wild and goes into captivity (not even accounting for what disease it develops, what you feed it, what meds you treat it with...all of which add to the reasons not to release) it should NEVER be released back into the wild. period.

nothing you can do about it now, but please keep this in mind in the future as should everyone else. best of luck with gars in the future--
