also RO water seems to be a must. again aging the water will reduce its PH before adding to the tank.

and large water changes are out, for me and my fish its fin level every week, its my understanding can not do this with dark water fish, small water changes so as to not disrupt the ph this means more but small water changes, again with RO water.

My creek chubs. Should be happy in 40ppm nitrate farm field run off.
I am planning on a cold water native tank. This spring I will get some fingerling from a local hatchery
Bass, crappie, walleye, a flat head. Feed then creek chubs. Then convince my loving wife that they need a 1000 gallons of space.
Probably build it zoo style cement, with one plane of 1" glass.
Then use my 30 gallon as a sump.

A large waste treatment plant can have dedicated anaerobic tanks. I follow that you have a part of your home setup operating in the dark. It seems to me that being dark is not necessarily the same as being anaerobic.

Perhaps I am making the wrong assumptions.

Do you in fact have an anaerobic portion operating in the home setup.

YES. I do. Two separate independent systems.

A 1 GPD. In my sump. It is removing nitrates. At a variable rate depending on the ppm going in.
At 200 ppm influent it can remove 99%
At 10 ppm influent it is currently discharging 5ppm.
The 5 GPD. Is the UG filter operated upflow. With miles and miles of microscopic cavern.
I will keep you posted.
