with the local reptile show coming I know there will be plenty next month. I have wanted one for years but was always concerned about temps getting too high. if im away at work and my tank happens to hit 80 degrees will it really just make them drop dead? how do you guys deal with it. I read some people put them in basements, refrigerators, frozen soda bottles, etc.

if the tank is heavily planted and oxygenated won't that help it thrive?

i just keep the ac on in the house if not ill freeze a water bottle and
throw it in to cool the down over time and that does the trick. was 106
degrees the other day... lol

Wow really? So they aren't as hypersensitive as made out to be? My fear with the soda bottles is if it would make too drastic of a temp change. I would love to have two axolotyl in mytank with plants and a school of fast cool water fish like zebra danio

well depends on the size of the tank since a frozen plastic water
bottle will cool the tank as it melts lowering the temp over time.
if you have a smaller tank a few ice cubes will do. do not house
your axxies with any fish what so ever. the fish will stress your axxies
by picking/eating on their frills or if its small enough it will get eaten.
axxies should only be housed with other axxies of similar size given
many hiding spots if one would need to ever get away from aggression.
