I just love these behind the curtain shots. So pleasing, almost as pleasing as the fronts. But then again I am mechanically oriented spending much of my career in equipment rooms.
I just swapped the 40 breeder diy sump to a 40 long with filter socks and submerged media. Swapped the 40 breeder to my plant refugium.

Hi,

I saw your photos of the plumbing for the FX5s. I have two FX6s that I want to do something similar. What size pipe is that that fits?. Do FX6 and FX5 have same fittings?

Thanks. Any input appreciated.

Here are my twin fx5's plumed in,in line heaters, and uv sterilizer.

the pipes should be 1'', and the fittings on fx5 and fx6 are the same

a little something different. I'm still in the process of setting it up, so here are some pix of what I have done.
so the tank is a 450 glass. I'm setting up the sump on the outside of the house. under the tank, I'm running two fx5s as a close loop. half of the space underneath the tank got turned into a doggie house for my golden retriever.
the reason for the sump being setup outside is to reduce the noise inside of the house. also I wanted an aquaphonic system to reduce nitrate and have some plants for aesthetics in the backyard. the sump would also be used as a bench as well. the dimension of it is 16ft long, 27 inch wide, 21 inch tall

I love everything about this setup, especially the addition of aquaponics. Currently our 4 - 86 gallon expanded clay media beds are dong a lot of the bio-filtration work on our 2600 gallon in door trout tank. What are the white hoses made out of? Those are solid looking hoses. Still you are able to tighten the hoses with hose clamps, very cool.

thks man! those hoses are these so called flexible hoses. they have 1'' id and will fit 1'' pvc fittings. although they r called flexible, but they rn't so flexible, at least not within a foot length. I'm using them to hook up to my fx5s from the bulkheads on the bottom of the tank. but I'm switching them to corrugated hoses aka kinkfree hoses, which are way more flexible, but the outter diameter wouldn't fit pvc fittings. I'm using the corrugated hoses becuz I need a hose that's highly flexible yet kinkfree. if u look at the fx5 pix, I built a draw so I can pull the stacked fx5s out for easy maintenance access. so with the hoses moving back and forth, the heavy duty white “flexible” hoses are way to rigid for the motion. they have thick wall, so clamping them don't really do much. but u r able to cement them into pvc fittings.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I can see that the flexibility might be an issue when trying to pull the Fluvials out for cleaning . Still they do look good. Can you use a heat gun to make the stay whatever shape you need? I wonder if this stuff is made in inch and a half? What's this pipe called?

here's a link:

they come in different sizes. i think they have a way cheaper price on ebay.

the replacement I bought is this:
