So I've had this Barred Red Midas in this tank for 6-8 months. The other day, I moved a yellow Midas out of my 125 into this tank because he was just getting too big for the 125--it was time. I come in the room yesterday morning, turn on the tank light, he's hiding in the back corner of the tank. I figured he got whipped over night, but he looked fine.

Today, I notice that the Red Midas I though probably beat him had an egg tube showing. Later in the day, they're in the corner of the tank doing this.

I think they'll get washed over the weir and into the filter socks way before they get eaten...... if they hatch. My stupid fish can't catch NLS pellets before they wash over the weir, why would they catch fry before they go over? :)

Would you consider giving the midas the 125 to themselves ?

I'd consider it, but I don't see any reason to do it yet. There's more push and shove with them spawning in the tank for sure, but nobody's getting really hurt. I figure I'll watch what happens, if I lose this batch, they'll spawn again I think.

Or maybe I could move one of them and some fry into the 125.....split the pair up so I don't have tons of baby Midas everywhere.

No clue, I've never had fish spawn before. Well, once when I had a tank 20 years ago, but that was another lifetime ago and I wasn't really watching.

How long does it take for eggs to hatch?

2-5 days I'd guess. I've seen that consistently with my jags and convicts. Could be more precise if I didn't work so much lol. Basically I notice when they've become free swimming or the parents move them

So the midas pair has been real aggressive today. So i went look closer, and half the eggs are gone. they go from where the eggs were laid, to a hole right nearby, and back again. Are they moving the eggs to a new spot?
