Most striking medium sized cichlids?

I would say if your looking for striking I’d go with a breeding pair of carpentis, here’s a pic of my old male, he was about 4-5 years old when I got rid of him and he was 8inches

Youve already got some great suggestions. Macaw cichlids(hypsophrys nicaraguensis) are some of the more "striking" cichlids i know of that meet your criteria.

While you have to have a specific taste for these, you could go with a single flowerhorn in a 100 gallon. While they aren't the most attractive fish physically, their colors can truly be spectacular. I personally love the color of the Thai Silk versions, but there are many different variations to choose from.

There are many species, these are "sp Venezuela", some are more colorful.
Prefer lower pH, neutral is probably OK for most species

Sp Venezuela has a max recorded length of 24"
Saxitillia species on the other hand are a good colorful medium sized alternative, but I don't know about their care or behavior too much
