I built a 3 55 gallon barrel system for my 300 bbut the tank leaked so I'm building a 600 gallon plywood tank. I'll post some picks but first barrel has 3 Matala 22" rounds pads. They are 6" thick so 18" of mechanical filtration and they last forever. Then I have K1 fluidized bed in #2 and #3 has my heaters, pumps, and drain for my drip system. Last pick is #1 tank water enters the bottom goes through the matala and enters the K1 barrel. I have a flush valve to clean the crap that doesn't go through the filter and to drain the barrel if I want to rinse off the pads

oh! this is very interesting! where did you get those pads? and how often do you clean them? I jsut bough about 40 lbs of lava rock to put into one of my barrels.

Off Amazon they are about $65 each but they are the best, they are made to fit perfect in the 55 gallon barrels and read reviews where people are still using the same pads 10 years later so worth it in the long run
