I know it's a relatively small species as far as kribs go, so I was wondering how big of a tank would be fine for a singular pair to successfully live in long term. My guess would be anywhere from 10-20 gallons, the usual for dwarf cichlids.
Mine fought in a 10 gallon- they were fine for a month but then had to separate. I suggest 20 gallon with hiding spaces. Im going to try to spawn mine in my 55 gallon com.
10 gallons can work for breeding purpose when the fish are conditioned well. But for long-term keeping I would not go under 20 gallons because they sometimes need space to avoid each other.
And the tank needs a certain amount of surface. A 20 gallons high would be to small in most cases.
I love kribs, had a breeding pair in a 20 gallon long for pretty much their lifespans (RIP Homer and Marge). I presently have 2 female kribs in my 75 gallon who pretty much hate each other but they've claimed their own spaces and don't actually hurt each other so I guess all is well. I don't think they'd do well together in a smaller tank though. A krib breeder I was talking to recently said you just never know with them.
